Despacito is a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six weeks. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought interest back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's fame in 2017 there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks that made the Top 100. In 2020, the number was 41. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 famous artists started to work with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018), while Madonna collaborated with Maluma for Medellin, 2019 In the year 2020, some Reggaeton artists were complaining about the trend of their genre to the mainstream. But a newer generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music and other styles.
